Christmas baking: Easy Christmas butter cookie recipe

Christmas is about a lot of things; family, friends, gift giving and of course, good food. In particular, there is something about the festive season that increases our desire for homemade sweet treats, from Christmas pudding to gingerbread biscuits. As Christmastime approaches and you start to consider Christmas baking once more, be sure not to miss this festive season favourite: Christmas butter cookies. Roll up your sleeves and bring out the vanilla essence! Child-friendly, festive and fun - enjoy one of our Christmas baking favourites!

Christmas Butter Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:

Method:
  1. Using an electric mixer, combine butter and sugar. Beat on a medium speed, (regularly scraping the sides of the bowl), until creamy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla to the mixture and continue beating until well mixed.
  3. Add the flour and salt and beat at a low speed until combined.
  4. Cover the cookie dough with baking paper and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 180°C and line two baking trays with baking paper.
  6. Split dough in half (keep one half in the fridge until needed) and roll the dough onto a lightly floured surface to a ½ centimetre thickness.
  7. Using festive cookie cutters, cut dough.
  8. Place cookies 3 centimetres apart on the baking trays.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden.
  10. Cool and dust with icing sugar to serve.
