Congratulations on receiving your beautiful blooms from Interflora Australia! Whether they’re Flowers to SydneyMelbourne FlowersBrisbane Flowers, or delivered to overseas like the UK or New Zealand, you can keep your flowers vibrant with simple care. This step-by-step guide includes expert tips and notes to help your birthday flowers and gifts or any floral display stay fresh longer.

Step 1: Trim the Stems Upon Arrival

As soon as you receive your flowers, trim 2-3 cm off the stems at a 45-degree angle. This improves water absorption by clearing blocked ends.

Additional Notes: Use sharp, clean scissors to avoid crushing stems. For delicate natives and wildflowers,— especially those with woody stems prone to air blockages, such as banksia, waratah, grevillea, hakea, flowering gum, and eucalyptus Repeat every 2-3 days. Common mistake: Skipping this for floral arrangements—even pre-arranged blooms need a fresh cut! For boxed or foam-based arrangements, do not pull them apart; instead, top up the water daily and keep the foam moist to maintain freshness.

Step 2: Use Fresh Water and Flower Food

Fill a clean vase with room-temperature water and add the flower food packet included with your flower bouquets. Change water every two days, adding fresh food each time to nourish blooms and reduce bacteria.

Additional Notes: No flower food? Mix 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons white vinegar per litre of water. In warm areas like Brisbane, daily water changes help in hot weather.

Step 3: Position Away from Harmful Elements

Place your flowers in a cool, draft-free spot, away from direct sunlight, heaters, air conditioning or fruit bowls, as fruits release ethylene gas that speeds up wilting.

Step 4: Remove Faded Petals and Leaves

Check daily and gently remove wilted petals, leaves, or stems, especially those below the waterline, to prevent decay from spreading.

Additional Notes: Submerged leaves breed bacteria, so strip them initially. For large floral arrangements, this can double their lifespan.

Step 5: Maintain the Right Vase

If your flowers came in a vase, keep it clean. For flower bouquets, use a clean, appropriately sized vase—tall for long stems, wide for bushy ones.

Additional Notes: Glass vases are ideal as they resist bacteria. Wash with a bleach solution weekly. Ensure vases for natives and wildflowers have enough space for stems to breathe.

With these steps, your Interflora Australia blooms—whether Sydney FlowersMelbourne Flowers, or from New Zealand—will stay vibrant longer. Explore our products for more stunning options and enjoy same-day delivery across Australia and beyond. Keep your flowers blooming!
