Behind every stunning bouquet is a florist with a story — and for George, owner of Tulipanna, that story began in childhood.
George entered the flower industry at just eight years old. His father owned more than 14 flower shops, so school holidays and weekends were often spent working alongside him, learning the ins and outs of the business.
What started as helping the family quickly became something much more.
Being surrounded by flowers from such a young age gave George a deep appreciation for the craft, the creativity, and the joy floristry brings to people. Watching his father build a successful business inspired him to follow in those footsteps and create something of his own.
Today, George has proudly been part of the Interflora network for 25 years, building a reputation for exceptional service, fresh flowers, and unforgettable floral designs.
What George loves most about being a local florist is simple but powerful: bringing joy to people, no matter the occasion.
Whether it's a birthday, wedding, welcoming a new baby, saying goodbye to a loved one, or sending flowers just because, George believes flowers have a unique way of expressing emotion when words aren't enough.
Located in the iconic beachside suburb of Bondi, Tulipanna has become part of the local community.
George's favourite thing about Bondi?
"Everybody knows everyone on Bondi Road."
That sense of connection is what makes the area so special. Bondi is globally recognised, but at its heart, it still feels like a close-knit community where relationships matter.
George believes one of the reasons customers keep returning to Tulipanna is the personal touch that only a local florist can offer.
As a family-owned business trading for over 25 years, Tulipanna is known for exceptional customer service and fresh flowers arriving in-store daily.
If George had to describe his floristry style in three words, it would be: abundant, amazing, and striking.
He's naturally drawn to roses and peonies, two flowers known for their timeless beauty and impact.
When it comes to seasonal blooms, one flower stands above the rest: Mr Lincoln roses.
"The smell is just to die for."
George finds inspiration in the flowers themselves.
"When you have amazing flowers, you can create a beautiful product."
His favourite floral trend right now is simple — a mass of flowers. Full, abundant arrangements that feel luxurious and make a statement.
And when it comes to unforgettable floral moments, one stands far above the rest.
George once created an installation featuring 10,000 red roses in a hotel room.
The setup had to be completed while the guests were sleeping, making the operation even more impressive. The result was breathtaking — a truly unforgettable floral experience.
Running a flower shop is far more demanding than most people realise.
George's day begins at 3:15 a.m.
By 4 a.m., he's at the flower markets buying stock and packing the truck until around 6:30 a.m. He's back at the store by 7:30 a.m., unloading, setting up, preparing orders, and getting ready for another busy day.
From there, the pace rarely slows down.
Orders need to be arranged, corporate clients serviced, and the shop maintained — all while managing the daily chaos that comes with a busy florist.
George usually finishes around 6:30 p.m., and this routine happens six days a week, with Sunday still being a normal trading day.
One thing he wishes more people understood about floristry?
"I don't think people realise how many hours go into a flower shop."
Peak seasons like Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are always intense, but Tulipanna stays busy year-round — something George feels incredibly grateful for.
And how does he keep going through those long days?
Coffee.
Lots of it.
"My coffee intake is about 8–10 coffees a day — every day!"
Roses or natives? Roses
Tulips or lilies? Tulips
Early mornings or late nights? Early mornings
Favourite colour palette? Peach and burgundy
Favourite occasion to create for? Just because
One flower everyone should have at home? Tulips and roses
For George, floristry is more than arranging flowers — it's about creating moments, emotions, and memories that last long after the flowers are gone. After decades in the industry, his passion for flowers remains as strong as ever.
