From Trainee to Owner

Ashley’s floristry dream began young. She was the little girl always picking flowers, arranging them, and playing “bride.” That dream turned real when she started work experience at Touchwood Flowers during high school in 2003.

By year 12, Ashley had secured a school-based traineeship. After graduating in 2004, the opportunity arose to buy into the very shop where it all began. On her 18th birthday in March 2005, she became a business owner. A decade later, she purchased her partner’s share, and today she proudly celebrates nearly 20 years as sole owner of Touchwood Flowers.

A Florist with Scale & Expertise

Touchwood Flowers isn’t just a shop — it’s the largest florist on the Mid North Coast, with a team of six talented florists. With five qualified florists and one trainee, their decades of combined experience allow them to produce work of exceptional quality and volume.

Strong relationships with suppliers at the Sydney Flower Market — many spanning over 30 years — ensure their blooms are always premium. Combine this with their award-winning service, a spacious retail shop, and a seamless online experience, and you’ll see why Touchwood is a trusted name in floristry.

Memorable Creations

Ashley has created countless arrangements for weddings, funerals, and community celebrations, but one standout was for a charity ball. Tasked with a “secret garden” theme, she designed a breathtaking floral bodice — hours of meticulous work, finished with cascading orchids. The piece went viral, reaching thousands online.

And then there are the quirky moments — like creating a funeral tribute entirely out of vegetables for a farmer.

A Love for Cymbidium Orchids

Ashley’s favourite seasonal flower is the cymbidium orchid, sourced locally from growers she’s worked with for over 20 years. With their natural bends and personality, they’re unlike any others and bring a special character to her designs.

Community at the Core

Touchwood Flowers is deeply embedded in Port Macquarie’s community. The business regularly donates to local causes, sponsors events, and has earned recognition through local business awards — including induction into the Hall of Fame

Looking Ahead

Ashley believes the future of floristry lies in sustainability. Her team has already made eco-conscious changes, recognising the importance of caring for the earth that provides their blooms. She also sees wildflowers continuing to rise in popularity.
