There are many ways to dye a tote bag, but did you know you can dye the cloth tote bag by pounding flowers? Start with a clean bag and slip a piece of wax or parchment paper inside to keep the flower dye from leaking through. Use flowers like marigold or petunias that have more pigment in them. Take off any access foliage and lay them out on the bag. Secure them with masking tape and slowly hammer away making sure to hit every inch of the flowers. Peel the tape and flowers off to reveal your print. If you want to fill in some gaps, just repeat the process. Leave it to dry. Lastly, put a piece of parchment paper on top of the bag and iron over your design with a hot, dry iron. This will help the colours set in and keep them from fading. This one is not only fun creating but is sure to turn out really beautiful.
