We can all agree that 2020 has been a powerful reminder and testament that if we put our mind to something together, our actions have the power to safeguard the most vulnerable among us in a big way. The same holds true when it comes to breast cancer and its impact on those affected by the disease in our community.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Australia. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, about 20,000 Australians will be diagnosed with the disease this year alone, amounting to 55 Australians daily.

In October We Wear Pink

October is marked as breast cancer awareness month. It is an annual campaign organised by major breast cancer charities that runs throughout the month, every year. The idea behind this is to drive awareness of the disease, educate people on the importance of early screening and testing, and raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Early Detection

We want to remind all men and women to put their health and wellbeing first – because like with any disease, prevention is best. Knowing the signs and recognising them early is so important, which is why we encourage women of all ages to be breast aware.

Be Breast Aware

Being breast aware includes familiarising yourself with looking and feeling your breasts regularly, so that you can identify any changes at the earliest point. The reason this is suggested is so you’re able to differentiate between what is regular, and isn’t. There is no right or wrong way to check your breasts for any changes and you definitely don’t need to be an expert or use a special technique. Remember to make sure this includes a check on all parts of your breast, your armpits up to your collarbone.

Changes to look for include:

See your doctor if you notice any of these changes.

How You Can Help & Support

There is strength in knowing you’re not alone. If it’s not you, it will be someone that you know, or someone’s mum, sister, daughter, friend or family whose life has been shaken by breast cancer. Whether you decide to donate, show your support by wearing a pink ribbon, spread the word or hold a Pink Ribbon Breakfast this October, know that you are doing something important and helping to save lives.

At Interflora Australia, breast cancer is a particularly important cause for us, which is why you can also shop from our limited edition National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) Collection featuring bright and beautiful pink floral arrangements. With every purchase, we donate 5% from each sale to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Give them a Bunch of Hope in a hurricane vase or Blessed Blossoms in a hatted box filled with pink flowers - mini gerberas, roses, chrysanthemums and carnations paired with highlights of green and silver foliage and let them know you’re here for them.

With your support, we can inspire hope while sponsoring game-changing research. Show your support with Interflora Australia while sending a beautiful gift to a Super Woman and showing the Power Of Pink today.
