To celebrate the first day of Spring, Interflora Australia brought a pop of colour to Melbourne with a set of amazing floral installations on the streets of Fitzroy on Thursday, September 1.

Bright Floral Installations in Melbourne

The floral art installation was on display on Rose Street, Fitzroy from 7am until 4pm. The Flower Flash brought 1000 brightly-coloured blooms to life, exhibiting a variety of spring flowers including gerberas, jonquils, Australian natives and of course, roses. This flower display climbed along the Rose Street signs and trees, spilling out of street furniture and council bins to bring a colourful welcome to the start of the new season and turning Rose Street into a rose treat.

Each installation had a different theme, to tell the story of Spring in Melbourne. One celebrated local Australian native flowers; one inspired by National Wattle Day; another gave a salute to the bright colours of tulips; and of course, Interflora Australia had a display of roses on Rose Street. At the end of the day, the flowers in our floral installation were given away, so people could bring the joy of Spring home to their families and brighten their day.

Celebrate Spring this Year

Spring is without a doubt the best time of year to be in Melbourne. After enduring another long, grey winter, Interflora Australia wanted to inject the colour and joy of Spring back into the streets of Melbourne. The floral installation was designed to remind everyone that Thursday was the first day of the happier and most colourful season of the year.

Rose Street Sign Installation

This rose street installation was inspired by the name of the street in Fitzroy but also chosen as Interflora has already sold 1.5 million roses this year. Roses are popular and available year round, but always a hit in the spring seasons. For this particular flower flash installation, Interflora installed over 300 stems of pink roses.

Floral Tree Installation

This installation was installed on a tree and inspired National Wattle Day. The signature colour in this floral installation was yellow and consisted of an array of flowers, including sunflowers, yellow gerberas and of course an abundance of wattle. 100 stems of other flowers were used.

Floral Bin Installation

The bin installation was inspired by Australia and featured all things native. Our native floral bin installation included leucadendrons, coccineas and kangaroo paw. Interflora used 20 bunches amount of native flowers.

Floral Pot Installation

Infamous for the banana sculpture statue and later replaced by plants, this cement pot was on the radar of many locals in Fitzroy, hoping it would come back to life with a new installation of flowers. We decided to bring this iconic yellow stand back to life and fill it with all the spring favourites including fragrant orange tulips, sweet scented jonquils and purple and white stock. Other flowers included snap dragons, sweet William and flowering blossom Interflora used over 50 bunches amount of flowers to out this flower installation together.
